SANDLIN STATEMENT ON FARM BILL DELAY
Washington,
D.C., November 16, 2007 – U.S.
Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin released the following statement regarding
the delay of the Farm Bill:
“I’m disappointed
that political games in the Senate have further delayed passage of what
is, by all accounts, a very strong Farm Bill that is good for producers
in South Dakota. The Farm Bill that passed the House, as well as the
version that passed unanimously from the Senate Agriculture Committee,
were almost universally endorsed by farm and ranch groups across South
Dakota and across the country. It’s a shame that this great progress
on behalf of our producers is being blocked by some in the Senate who
want to inject politics into the bill in the form of amendments that
have nothing to do with agriculture. I am still hopeful, however, that
common sense and good policy will prevail, and a compromise can be reached
by year’s end.
