HERSETH SANDLIN STATEMENT ON CAROLE HILLARD

October 25, 2007, Washington D.C. – U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin released the following statement today regarding following news of the death of Carole Hillard:

“I join with all South Dakotans in mourning the passing of former Lieutenant Governor Carole Hillard. Carole was a pioneer for women in government, rising to hold the highest state office any woman has held in South Dakota. She was a role model for women who encouraged young people in their endeavors to serve, and always represented our state with class and dignity. Carole continued to pursue the issues she cared about throughout her life, both as an elected public servant and following her time in office, and for that she will always be remembered and admired.”
