SANDLIN STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT’S VETO OF CHILDREN’S HEALTH INSURANCE
BILL
President
Misses ‘Golden Opportunity’ to Sign Bipartisan, Common Sense Bill
October
3, 2007, Washington, D.C. –
Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin released the following statement today
following the president’s veto of the State Children’s Health Insurance
Program (SCHIP) reauthorization, passed by Congress last month:
“I’m extremely disappointed
that President Bush has vetoed this bipartisan legislation that would
have ensured health care coverage for more low-income, uninsured children
in South Dakota and across the nation. He has rejected a golden opportunity
to sign into law a common sense bill, which is supported by strong majorities
in the House and Senate, 43 governors, and families across the country.
While estimates
vary, in South Dakota alone the funding provided through this bill could
have provided health insurance for more than 8,000 children who would
otherwise be uninsured.”
