Herseth
Sandlin Statement on Gonzales Resignation
August 27,
2007, Washington, D.C. –
Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin released the following statement today
regarding the resignation of U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales:
"The nation's
top law enforcement officer should be focused on keeping our nation
safe, bringing criminals to justice, and fairly and evenly administering
the law. Unfortunately, there were clear signs that Mr. Gonzales too
often let partisan politics get in the way of the responsibility that
came with his position, including several misjudgments that cost him
the confidence of many.
"I am hopeful
that this resignation will allow the Congress and the American people
to move on and move forward."
