May 8, 2007,
Washington, D.C. –
Today, Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin issued the following statement
on the ongoing recovery efforts following the storms in eastern South
Dakota this past weekend.
Rep. Herseth Sandlin
said, “I share the concern of all South Dakotans for the safety of everyone
impacted by the devastating storms throughout eastern South Dakota.
Once again, South Dakotans are showing their resilience and ability
to help one another during times of crisis. My staff and I have been
in frequent touch with municipal, county and state officials to receive
updates and offer assistance going forward with the recovery. This morning,
I met with President Bush and I relayed to his staff the severity of
the damage, particularly in Aberdeen and surrounding communities.”
This morning, Rep.
Herseth Sandlin met with President George W. Bush at the White House
on a number of issues facing the country. She informed White House Chief
of Staff Joshua Bolton that she will support a request for a federal
emergency disaster declaration, pending a request from the state.
