Rep. Herseth Sandlin announced that Elise Buchmann of Martin as the winner of the 2009 Congressional Art Competition from South Dakota for her work entitled “Acrobat.” Buchann attends Bennett County High School where her art teacher is her mother, Rosemary Buchmann. The painting will hang in the Capitol Hill complex along with the winning artwork from other congressional districts.

Tying for second place in Rep. Herseth Sandlin’s 2009 Congressional Art Competition were Sarah Bonhorst, for her work entitled “Subliminal” (LEFT) and Brandi Pierce, for her work entitled “That Summer.” (RIGHT) Both are from Fort Pierre and attend Stanley County High School where their teacher is Audrey Nelson. Bonhorst’s mother is Laurie Bonhorst. Pierce’s parents are Arlen and Nicole Pierce. The second place winners will hang in Rep. Herseth Sandlin’s congressional office in Washington.
