Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin would like to invite all South Dakota high school students, including those in public, private, tribal and alternative schools or educational cooperatives, to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. The Congressional Art Competition is a national competition organized by Congress in partnership with state organizations including the South Dakota Arts Council and South Dakotans for the Arts/South Dakota Alliance for the Arts Education. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, providing Members of Congress with an opportunity to recognize talent in their home districts. Since 1982, more than 650,000 high schools students have participated in the competition through the encouragement of their Representative. Among the submissions, the first place winning entry will be displayed in the United States Capitol Complex for one year. The second place winning entry will be displayed in Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin’s Washington, DC office. First place winners will be invited to a Congressional Reception to be held on June 17, 2010 in Washington, DC to unveil their works. The deadline for artwork to be received by the South Dakota Arts Council is April 16, 2010. Please see below for the official guidelines and entry form.
