Military Academy Nominations

South Dakotans have a long and proud tradition of service to our country. Through our nation’s service academies, young Americans have an opportunity to receive a paid education from a fine institution and graduate as commissioned officers in the United States Armed Services.

Each year, I am proud to nominate some of South Dakota’s best and brightest high school seniors to our nation’s service academies. Nominations and appointments to the academies are highly competitive, and are based on candidates’ character, scholarship, leadership ability, physical aptitude, medical fitness, goals and motivation.

ELIGIBILITY

In order to qualify for an Academy nomination, the following requirements must be met:

  • You must be unmarried and without any dependents.
  • You must be between the ages of 17 and 22 on July 1 of the year you wish to enter the Academy
  • You or your parents must be a legal resident of South Dakota

United States Naval Academy
United States Air Force Academy
United States Merchant Marine Academy

NOTE: The United States Coast Guard Academy does not require Congressional nomination. Please contact that Academy directly.
