HERSETH SANDLIN TO HOST CONGRESSIONAL DUSEL BRIEFING
Washington, DC {October 31, 2009}- On Monday, Rep. Herseth Sandlin (SD-AL) and Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) will co-host a Congressional briefing for Members of Congress and their staff on the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL). At the briefing, personnel from the Department of Energy’s Office of Science and the National Science Foundation will provide a progress update on the DUSEL and plans for construction at the Homestake Mine in Lead, SD.
“The DUSEL facility at Homestake will not only encourage further discoveries in the arena of particle physics, but also foster a thriving community of world-class scientists and research professionals in South Dakota,” Rep. Herseth Sandlin said. “I’m looking forward to providing my colleagues with more information about the DUSEL and the potential it holds for scientific discovery.” Ultimately the completed DUSEL facility would facilitate a wide spectrum of experiments, but would most immediately offer a step forward for the US particle physics program by exploring the properties of neutrino particles.
