How to Apply for a Nomination to U.S. Service
Academies
APPLICATION
STEPS
- Contact the U.S.
Service Academy or Academies that interest you and find out more about
their specific eligibility requirements. You MUST
contact an Academy directly to initiate the admissions process and
open a pre-candidate application file. This is IN ADDITION
to the Congressional nomination process.
- Complete the
attached application and
return it to my Sioux Falls office, along with a letter explaining
why you wish to attend your chosen academy or academies, a list of
your extracurricular activities and a current photograph. Applications
are being accepted now through October
31, 2008 for the Class of 2013 (which begins in June
2009). Interviews are tentatively scheduled in Sioux Falls
& Rapid City on December 6, 2008.

- Arrange for letters
of recommendation from three individuals who are familiar
with your accomplishments in school, extracurricular and/or community
activities. Your references should write directly to my office at
the above address. Please list these individuals on your application.
- Have your scores
from either the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT-I) or American College
Test (ACT) sent to my Sioux Falls office.
- Have your school
send your current transcript to my Sioux Falls office (same contact
info as above).
DEADLINE
Your application,
cover letter, list of extracurricular activities, recommendations,
test scores and transcript must be received in my Sioux Falls office
no later than October 31, 2008
to be considered for a nomination to the class of 2013.
